Charles Booker is a lifelong Louisvillian, born and raised in the Shawnee Neighborhood. Charles received his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Louisville, and has used his education and experiences to be a passionate advocate for families, youth, and disadvantaged individuals throughout the community. Charles has an expansive career in government relations, community empowerment, and neighborhood development.Charles has led an accomplished career in public service. Charles has interned in the U.S. Congress, assisted families as a clerk for now-Judge Denise Brown, served Louisville's Central Business District and surrounding neighborhoods as Legislative Assistant for the 4th Metro Council District under David Tandy, managed volunteers for Congressman John Yarmuth's 2010 and 2012 campaigns, and worked as a Legislative Analyst for the KY Legislative Research Commission. In 2014, he was appointed as Director of Personnel and Administrative Services for the KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife under Governor Steve Beshear. In this role, Charles paved the way for greater urban engagement and statewide connectivity for communities of color, supporting his goal of ensuring that every citizen has access to Kentucky's rich resources.In 2015, Charles was awarded a Bloomberg fellowship role as Project Manager for Mayor Greg Fischer's Innovation Delivery Team, helping to spearhead initiatives such as neighborhood Wi-Fi and vacant lot reuse. Pushing for greater community development, entrepreneurism, and stronger supports for Kentucky's agricultural economy, Charles served as Director of Strategic Partnerships in the internationally recognized West Louisville FoodPort development. In the community, Charles participates in dozens of neighborhood groups and initiatives, including Leadership Louisville, Wilderness Louisville Board of Directors, University of Louisville's Signature Partnership, the Louisville Independent Business Alliance, 1619 Flux, and the Louisville Urban League. In 2018, Charles was elected to be State Representative for Kentucky's 43rdDistrict. He now leads in this role as a fighter for our community, serving on the Judiciary, Natural Resources, Economic Development, and Government Contract Review Committees.Charles now lives in the historic Russell Neighborhood, with his wife Tanesha, and beautiful daughters Kaylin and Prestyn.
