Eric L. Nelson - Executive Director of Students With A Goal, Eric Nelson, originally from Cleveland Ohio, is father to six children (5 daughters, and 1 son). Earlier in his career of service, at the age of 19, he worked as a Counselor and Juvenile Advocate for the National Institute for Responsible Fatherhood & Family Development. He also has an Information Technology (IT) Degree in Software Information Systems, from Remington College, where he graduated Valedictorian with a GPA of 4.0.After relocating to Akron Ohio, Eric began mentoring youth in the Summit Lake Apartments, located in the Summit Lake Community. Mentoring began by interacting with his own children, and inviting neighborhood kids to join in. These young people needed the care and time of a father, and he was more than happy to provide free haircuts, and a listening ear, words of encouragement, and often words of correction when they needed them. In 2012, Eric has worked as the Clinic Office Manager of the OPEN M Free Clinic, as well as the Transportation Manager for the Community Works Connection (an OPEN M program). In 2015, while volunteering for SWAG, Eric interviewed for and became Interim Executive Director of Students with A Goal (SWAG) and was later named Executive Director of SWAG in January 2016. Eric serves on the Akron Civic Commons Core Team, which spawned the creation of the Leaven Lenses Project (LLP), A Photography Apprenticeship. Additionally, Eric is a part of the Akron Public School's College & Career Academy Steering Committee, the Front Porch Fellowship Elder Board.Eric believes that the two best investments one can make are in both the youth, (as they are our future), and seniors citizens (as they are our wisdom). Through his position as Executive Director of SWAG, and the selective boards & committees that he sits on, Eric works tirelessly to create a stronger Akron for all its citizens.
