Phaedra Wainaina, JD., a serial innovator and a proud Detroit native, who has exhibited a longstanding commitment to the city and its residents. Wainaina's strong desire to serve is rooted in her belief that social welfare of any community begins with service. Wainaina is a graduate of Renaissance High School (Detroit), the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and Wayne State University Law School (Detroit).In addition to her academic accomplishments, Wainaina serves as the Executive Director of Vehicles for Change-Detroit (VFC-D). In her current role, Wainaina aligns the complexities of re-entry reform, urban revitalization and community investment to create continuums of support to improve the well-being of Detroit's most under-served communities.Wainaina is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and currently serves with the Detroit Alumnae Chapter. Wainaina was selected as a New Leaders Council Detroit Fellow in 2018, as a result of her commitment to progressive leadership and the sustainability of American society. Wainaina currently serves as an advisory board member for Renaissance High School of Detroit, Jalen Rose Leadership Academy of Detroit and Horizons Upward Bound of Bloomfield. Wainaina's greatest role and accomplishment is being a mother to her only child, Robyn.
