Rashad Staton is proud Baltimorean and a former student athlete of Paul Laurence Dunbar High, C/O 2009. Rashad graduated Dunbar High and was awarded a full academic scholarship to attend Morgan State University, earning an undergraduate degree in Political Science. While at Morgan State, Rashad was an exceptional student leader, concurrently serving as Vice President of Student Government Association, President of NPHC (Greek Life), and many other student organizations. In 2016, Rashad then began to utilize his leadership abilities to servicing his community and the City of Baltimore, becoming Vice Chair of Baltimore City Youth Commission. That same year, Rashad decided to further his passion for public service by running for political office as the youngest candidate for City Council, District 12. Although Rashad was not elected, his candidacy and platform allowed him to work alongside City and State elected officials on issue dealing with the Baltimore Uprising, HBCU Equity, Police Reform and many other issues locally and nationally. Rashad Staton currently works as a Youth Engagement Specialist for Baltimore City Public Schools, promoting the importance of student literacy, student leadership, and student voice. Rashad serve as a board member for My Brother's Keeper Baltimore, Art With A Heart, Baltimore Votes and Our Maryland. Rashad Staton is also a second-generation art collector and curator, and Vice President of the Luvs Art Project, a community art based nonprofit that uses various mediums of art to prompt community development and togetherness, and Co-Founder of It Takes 1 Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships first generation college students. Rashad is a past Fellow of Campaign of Black Male Achievement and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University's Bunting Neighborhood Leadership Fellow Program. As a self-proclaimed “Catalyst of Change”, Rashad centers himself in being a public servant who provides strategic planning and development spaces and opportunities for youth and young adults through an asset and strength based lens, ultimately changing the narrative and perception from of deficit framing to positive outlooks and outcomes.
