Richard Grundy is a web developer, community builder, and non-profit executive from Detroit, MI. For over 10 years, he's built a skillset around technology and coding through school and practical experience. He also believes in the power of community, organization and empowering the youth of today and tomorrow.While the country was knee-deep in the 2007 recession, Richard embarked on creating his path in the workforce through sales and advertising. He eventually moved to New York in 2014 to attend a coding boot-camp and moved back to his hometown to start his non-profit organization JOURNi.JOURNi is a non-profit organization that empowers the youth through tech education and entrepreneurship training. They also help students learn how to monetize their skillsets, so they won't have to depend solely on traditional forms of work. Major corporations such as Ford, Microsoft, Google, The Skillman Foundation, United Way of Southeastern Michigan and Wayne State University serve as partner s for the youth-driven organization.Richard has received an array of awards and recognition for his service through tech and the community. Most recently, he co-led an event called Code Detroit, which introduced over 2500 kids to coding during a four-day event. He's also been named as a 2019 American Express CBMA Fellow, a 2019 Skillman BME Fellow and a 2019 Black Enterprise BE Modern Man of Distinction. Currently, Richard is continuously providing guidance and opportunities to the youth through JOURNi.
