Samuel L. Johnson Jr. serves as Director of Youth Development and Education at the Louisville Urban League (LUL). He is charged with leading six education focused, out-of-school time programs, the Parent Leadership Academy which equips parents with the tools to be the best advocate for their child's education and he also supports education policy efforts. Samuel was born and raised in West Louisville. He studied Psychology at the University of Kentucky and earned a B.A. in Business Management from the University of Phoenix Before leading education programs at LUL, Samuel served six years at Metro United Way's in their Finance & Accounting department before transitioning to their Community Engagement department in 2016. Samuel is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was selected to participate in the inaugural class and completed the Louisville Urban League's Urban Leadership Alliance Seminar which prepares high-potential, African-American males for executive leadership positions. Samuel has also completed Leadership Louisville's Ignite program, the Harwood Institute's Public Innovators Course and the Dale Carnegie Course, where he received the 'Highest Award for Achievement.' He enjoys learning new things, working out, reading, meditation, and spending time at home with his family. Samuel and his wife Shareka are proud parents of two children, Laila and Samuel III.
